E-Bike/E-Scooter Safety
Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, Walnut Valley Unified School District has introduced a required virtual e-bike and e-scooter safety and policy training course for middle and high school students who plan to ride an e-bike or e-scooter to or from school.
To support safe and responsible riding, the District has partnered with PedalAce, an online safety and policy training provider. This training ensures students are informed of traffic laws, safety protocols, and specific regulations governing e-bike and e-scooter use. The course covers essential topics, including traffic laws and local ordinances, safe operation of e-bikes and e-scooters, licensing and age requirements. In addition, the District is working closely with local law enforcement to support the implementation and enforcement of recently updated city ordinances related to e-bike and e-scooter use. These updates will focus on safe riding practices and enforcement to better serve our schools and surrounding neighborhoods.
Completion of this one-time, 2.5-hour online training is mandatory beginning in August of the 2026-2027 school year.
Students who have not completed the PedalAce or an equivalent District-approved course, will not be permitted to bring an e-bike or e-scooter onto District or school property, including bike racks, parking lots, and storage areas. Walnut Valley Unified School District will cover the full cost of this one-time training.
Any WVUSD student who intends to use an e-bike/e-scooter to commute to and from school will be required to:
- Complete the e-bike/e-scooter safety course on PedalAce or approved equivalent training
- Obtain a WVUSD Completion Sticker to commute and park the e-bike/e-scooter on any WVUSD school grounds
PERMIT PROCESS FOR E-BIKES/E-SCOOTERS
Complete the following items in order to receive your e-bike/e-scooter WVUSD Completion Sticker:
- Sign up for the e-bike/e-scooter safety course using the link in your principal’s email or click the link HERE. Students should use their school email to register directly with PedalAce.
- After completing the course, students must email or bring their certificate of completion to the site designee to receive a WVUSD sticker, which will be placed on their e-bike/e-scooter.
- Students will fill out a Google form that includes: sticker number, VIN for each e-bike/e-scooter, and student information.
The e-bike/e-scooter WVUSD completion sticker must be placed on a visible area near the handlebars. The WVUSD completion sticker should NOT be removed. If your sticker is removed, please report this information to the office for replacement and/or investigation.
Please note that once the course has been successfully completed, the requirement is fulfilled for the remainder of the student’s enrollment in WVUSD. For 8th grade students moving onto High School, students will need to show completion verification.

E-BIKE & E-SCOOTER BOARD POLICY
The District recognizes that electric and motorized vehicles are an increasingly common mode of transportation on school campuses. Although they provide effective transportation for some families, improper e-bike and e-scooter use can be hazardous to riders and others. The District shall establish regulations for safe e-bike and e-scooter operation on District property that addresses e-bikes and e-scooters storage, security, permits, education, safety, and enforcement. The District shall also work with local law enforcement to identify and adhere to any changes in city ordinances.
*The District does not promote or endorse the use of Electric Single Rider Vehicle nor does the District guarantee or suggest that its policies will ensure the safety of students using Electric Single Rider Vehicles. The District encourages all students, parents, and guardians to carefully consider whether the use of an Electric Single Rider Vehicle is a valid option based on their specific needs. Further, the District cannot, and does not, guarantee the safety of any student using an Electric Single Rider Vehicle after complying with the District’s Electric Single Rider Vehicle Policy.
