Walnut Valley Trustees Take Oaths

WALNUT, CA—Walnut Valley Unified School District Board Members took oaths of office during the December 11 meeting. Incumbents Helen Hall and Cindy Ruiz and newly elected Y. Tony Torng took oaths of office during the December 11 meeting.

Hall was administered the oath by Member Larry Redinger.

Ruiz, who was elected Board President following the swearing in ceremony, received the oath from Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor.

Hall has served on the Board since 1985 and received 27.54% of the votes. Ruiz has served on the Board for 12 years and received 23.88% of the total votes during the November 5 election.

The District’s newest Board Member, Y. Tony Torng, was also administered the oath of office by Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor.

He finished last month’s election with 25.37% of the total votes according to the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.

Board Member Phillip Chen was elected Vice President and Larry Redinger was elected Clerk during the annual reorganization meeting. The new officers will serve through December 2014.

Hall was honored with an engraved gavel plaque for her service as the 2013 Board President.

“She’s made quite an impact with her leadership this year,” Nancy Lyons said.

“It’s always a pleasure to work with these bright people. People who have different opinions, but in the end goal is always the students and the District. Yes, I’ve run a few times for re-election. But each and every time it’s in my heart that it’s for the students. I want to make sure that every student in this District gets the quality education that’s needed to be successful in life,” she said.

“She’s been a true leader for our Board, not only this past year, but during all the years she has served,” Cindy Ruiz said.

Nancy Lyons won a seat on the Diamond Bar City Council during the November 5 election. She received a special recognition for her two terms of service during the meeting.

Lyons acknowledged fellow Board Members for the numerous facilities projects completed including the “dive-in” grand opening ceremony at the Diamond Bar High School Aquatic Center held earlier that day.

“The highlight for me has been visiting the classrooms and seeing the teachers and students. It’s been a privilege to serve and I plan to be around a lot,” she said.
