Diamond Bar, Walnut Ranked Among Best U.S. High Schools
U.S. News Releases 2013 Best High School Rankings

WALNUT, CA—Diamond Bar and Walnut High Schools have been ranked as two of the best in the state and nation in the 2013 U.S. News Best High Schools Rankings released on April 22.

The outstanding schools are in the top 10% of high schools in the state and top 3% nationwide.

Diamond Bar High School received the Gold Medal Award. DBHS is ranked 39th within California and 219th in the nation.

“Congratulations to our students, staff, and parents in building and supporting such a wonderful learning community for our children!” said Principal Catherine Real.

“If you look closely at how the rankings were compiled, you will see that among other criteria, our school philosophy of open access to AP courses and AP testing has played a big part in how well we ranked.  Not only have we increased access to more AP courses, but we have simultaneously maintained an excellent pass rate!” she said.

Walnut High School received the Silver Medal Award. WHS is ranked 122nd within California and 629th in the nation.

“This is a great honor for Walnut High School. Our staff is dedicated to supporting all students,” said Principal Jeff Jordan.

“Walnut High continues to evaluate student success and willing to adjust when necessary. To be recognized as one of the top 3% high schools in the country is a very humbling honor. I am proud of our staff, students, and parents as they are the ones that make this recognition a reality,” Jordan said.

Over 21,035 U.S. public high schools were reviewed for this year’s report; 630 California schools made the rankings. Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors.

In the national rankings, 500 schools earned gold medals, 1,790 were awarded silver, and 2,515 took home bronze.
