Diamond Bar High Students Vie in National Chemistry Olympiad

WALNUT, CA--On May 3, the San Gorgonio Section of the American Chemical Society recognized local high school students for their outstanding performances on the annual U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad exam.

The students were honored at a banquet at California State University, San Bernardino.

One hundred and fifty students from twelve high schools gave up a Saturday morning to take the local chemistry exam.

The possible rewards?  A college scholarship and the chance to be selected to represent the United States at the International Chemistry Olympiad in July.

Congratulations to Diamond Bar High students Alex Cheng and Christina Chen who qualified to participate in the National level exam. Alex Cheng, Christina Chen, and Ryan Huang earned college scholarships.

“The Chemistry Olympiad is a multi-tiered competition designed to stimulate and promote achievement in high school chemistry. The local and U.S. National Chemistry Olympiad competitions are sponsored by the American Chemical Society,” Mt. SAC chemistry teacher Eileen DiMauro said.
