Walnut High Athletes Sign College Acceptance Letters

WALNUT, CA -- A soccer player, softball outfielder, and swimmer celebrated signing college letters of intent today at Walnut High School.

Athletic Director Jerry Person introduced the three athletes during the lunchtime ceremony.

Each athlete sat at a table decorated with a colorful banner identifying their name and college of choice.

And each had pen in hand, ready to sign the official acceptance letter.

Their proud families cheered and took pictures of the well-deserved accomplishment marking outstanding athletic and academic achievement.

Congratulations to the following athletes:

Swimmer Andrea Grant will attend Brigham Young University in the fall. She will be joining her sister, Rachel, another talented swimmer in the family!  Andrea said that she is “really excited” about the opportunity at the signing ceremony held in the quad area in front of students, staff, and families.

Soccer player Nikki McKee accepted a full scholarship from Pepperdine University. Her coach Lorraine Hansen said that the school is lucky to have such a talented athlete who played at varsity level all four years.  “She’s a great kid all around.”

Softball outfielder Sam Lepp is excited to be attending Sonoma State University in the fall. “It was my first choice,” she said at the signing. “It took a lot of practice and hard work,” she said.  She has played since the age of 7.

Assistant Principal Bill Diskin offered congratulations to the athletes and their families for the outstanding athletic and academic achievement, and wished them the best of luck next year.

“It’s such an honor for them to be recognized,” he said.
