DIAMOND BAR, CA--The Diamond Bar High School Science Olympiad Team won the 4th Place award on Saturday, February 26 at the regional competition held at Occidental College. Students competed against 36 teams and were only two points shy of the 3rd Place award!

The DBHS team will now advance to the State Championships at Canyon High School in Anaheim on April 9.

Team members are: Brandon Sim, Alex Chang, Kevin Zhang, Orrin Belden, Nimisha Ganesh, Ryan Ma, Curtis Wang, Ian Pan, Matthew Hapenney, Alan Li, Chris Lee, Richard Koh, Corey Chen, Christopher Chen. Willie Lo, Vincent Pang, and Grant Shao.

Team coaches are physics teacher Angela Jensvold, Teresa Hebert, and Richard Goya.

Students Brandon Sim and Chris Lee won 1st Place in Technical Problem Solving.  Brandon Sim and Ian Pan took the 1st Place Award in Disease Detective.

Earlier this year, two students on this talented team were named 2010 Siemens Semi-Finalists. Congratulations to Curtis Wang and Nimisha Gansesh who were among 300 national winners.

Science Olympiad, one of the nations’ premiere science competitions, provides rigorous, standards-based challenges to nearly 6,000 teams in 49 states.

Students prepare throughout the year for the tournaments that consist of a series of 23 team events in each division. The events, in all the STEM disciplines, provide a variety of career choices and exposure to practices scientists and mentors. 

The Science Olympiad competition is committed to increasing the global competitiveness for the next generation of scientists.
