WALNUT, CA--Walnut Valley USD will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new 10,000 square-foot performing arts building at South Pointe Middle School on April 19 at 3:00 p.m.

The new building features expansive band and choir rooms with 24-foot-tall ceilings, ensemble rooms, instrument storage rooms, practice rooms, music library, and storage room.

"South Pointe Middle School is thrilled for the opening of our new Performing Arts building, a facility that will serve as a testament to the support of our community through Measure WV,” said Principal Dr. Matthew Brummett. 

“This incredible space will provide our world-class performing arts students and directors with the perfect platform to showcase their talents and continue to set new standards of excellence. On behalf of our entire school community, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to our community and to all who played a vital role in making this project a reality."

The construction project was funded by community support of Measure WV, passed in November 2016.

Nearly 500 students are enrolled in South Pointe’s premier instrumental and vocal music programs that comprise over fifty percent of the school’s population.

The venue will allow for large group instruction, smaller ensemble rehearsals, and one-on-one lessons.

Practice rooms will have space to include resources such as pianos and equipment.

The Board of Trustees awarded the contract to AWI Builders at the September 15, 2021 meeting with a winning bid of $5,100,911.00.

The construction of the building designed by DC Architects began on October 17, 2021.

South Pointe Middle School is located at 20671 Larkstone Drive in Diamond Bar.
