Chaparral Wind Ensemble Selected for Chicago Band Festival
Students to perform in historic Windy City
DIAMOND BAR, CA --The Chaparral Middle School Wind Ensemble has been selected to participate in the 2011 Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival in Chicago, Illinois.
The Chaparral Wind Ensemble was one of four student bands and the only middle school selected to participate in this year’s festival.
The Wind Ensemble is comprised of 68 7th and 8th grade students who practice weekly in addition to their regular band class.
In order to pay for student scholarships, the band has held many fundraising events and has recently received a grant from Chaparral’s Chinese American Parent Association.
Band director Leslie Schroerlucke will conduct the band in a performance at Chicago’s historic Orchestra Hall, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on March 26, 2011.
“I am very excited about this opportunity to represent Diamond Bar in a national event, she said. “This marks a milestone of achievement for our band program.”
The band will also attend a clinic with Colonel Arnold Gabriel, Conductor Emeritus of the US Air Force Band.
The Percy Grainger Wind Ensemble Festival is organized by Music Celebrations International and is designed to commemorate the music of Grainger – one of the foremost composers of concert band literature during the 20th century.
