WALNUT, CA-- In keeping with tradition, the Walnut Valley USD Board of Trustees recognized an exemplary student and parent during the September 21 meeting.

Fifth grader Luke Munoz from Vejar Elementary was celebrated with the Super Star Student Award for being a role model of the Vejar Values.

“He embodies respect and responsibility while continuing to be his authentic self,” lauded Principal Dr. Whitney Prenger.

Luke entertained the school with jokes, juggling, and improvisation while serving as a master of ceremonies during a student showcase.

He is a hardworking student and honorary volunteer who provides support on campus every day.

His enthusiasm for learning, helping, and wonderful smile continue to make Vejar a special place.

Parent volunteer Tricia Ulloa received the Partner in Education Award for a decade of service to students and staff at Vejar Elementary.

Tricia’s work beyond the classroom sets her apart, the school leader shared.

During distance learning, she picked up items to prep for teachers from her home.

Now that the school is re-opened, she supports her daughter’s fourth grade teacher and extends care to a kindergarten class.

“Whether it’s comforting an emotional student or opening a snack, she can be seen throughout the campus providing students with the care they need to succeed,” Dr. Prenger said.

Tricia also treats staff members with occasional breakfast deliveries that never go unnoticed.

“She always seems to know exactly what Vejar needs and her timing is impeccable!”
