Updated Protocols on Close Contacts

May 3, 2022

RE: Updated Protocols on Close Contacts, Effective May 4, 2022, Per Public Health

Dear WVUSD Parents and Guardians,

As always, COVID-19 restrictions and mandates are subject to change. The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) can require masks to be worn on district property should there be a change in COVID-19 transmission levels. Each week we are informed of changes in the COVID requirements in LA County.  Last week we were given information that changed the definition of “Close Contact” and the requirements for being a close contact.

Under the new Health Order, a “close contact” is defined as someone sharing the same indoor airspace, e.g., home, classroom, office, etc., with a COVID positive person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes over 24 hours.

Effective May 4, 2022, per Public Health, all close contacts must:

  1. Wear a highly protective mask until quarantine ends or for a full 10 days if the individual is exempt from quarantine (having no symptoms regardless of vaccination status).  If the individual meets the criteria to leave quarantine before 10 days, it is required that the individual continue to wear a highly protective, well-fitting mask around others, especially indoors, for a total of 10 days after the last contact with a person infected with COVID-19.  The mask should be a well-fitting medical mask, a well-fitting respirator, or a well-fitting high filtration reusable mask with a nose wire.

  1. Get tested within 3-5 days after your last exposure to determine your infection status.  The test should be an FDA-authorized COVID-19 viral test such as an antigen or NAAT/PCR test, including over-the-counter self-tests.

If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please isolate your child at home and contact your child’s school.

  1. Monitor your child’s health for ten days following your exposure.  If symptoms develop, follow the isolation guidelines for COVID-19 positive cases.

As we navigate the last month of school for the 2021-2022 year, we appreciate everything you have done to comply with the LADPH guidelines to keep students, staff, and the community safe.  It has been an unprecedented year, and we thank you for your flexibility as we finish the year strong.

If you have any questions, please utilize the Let’s Talk! feature on our District’s website.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Sincerely,

a. 10 10 COVID-19 10

b. 3-5 FDA COVID-19 NAAT/PCR

c. 10 COVID-19 isolation guidelines for COVID-19 positive cases.
