WALNUT, CA—Walnut Valley USD Board of Trustees continued the long-standing tradition of recognizing exemplary students and community partners during the April 20 meeting. 

Stellar Evergreen Elementary fifth grader Tiffany Trinidad received the Super Star Student Award. The student leader demonstrates excellent effort in all that she does, is always on task, and puts forth 110% effort. She recently served as narrator and director for her group’s Walk Through American Revolution play. Peers describe Tiffany as “so smart, kind, friendly, and very athletic,” shared Interim Principal Jackie Brown. “She is a star in PE and on the handball courts.”  Tiffany is kind, polite, and a role model Evergreen Eagle!

Evergreen Elementary Community Club Vice President Elizabeth “Liz” Humphrey was presented with the Partner in Education Award.  “Liz is a wonderful and dedicated parent volunteer who continued to be involved even during the COVID times,” Brown said. Liz’s smile and enthusiasm can be felt at events she has headed up over the years. Education support drives, teacher appreciation lunches, and special event decorations have all been stamped with her success signature. Liz is also talented at creating balloon arches! She recently stepped in for the Community Club president and did a terrific job with her contagious positive attitude. “Thank you, Liz from the bottom of our hearts for all that you do for our Evergreen staff and students!” Brown said.

Quail Summit Elementary fifth grader Noah Ruelas was honored with the Super Star Student Award. “Noah has achieved success this year through hard work and perseverance both in and outside the classroom,” lauded Principal Frances Weissenberger Not only has he excelled in academics, but he is also part of extra-curricular activities including student council. Noah is the spirit commissioner this year and has done a great job leading the squad and showing Quail Pride! He is thoughtful and intentional in interactions with his peers and staff. Noah spreads kindness, cares about his peers, and shows good citizenship by always including others around him. Noah is a true example of what it means to be a star Quail Summit student!

Dedicated parent volunteer Angie Yung-Huey, fondly known as the “Cricut Queen, was honored with Quail Summit Elementary’s Partner in Education Award. Angie is president of the school’s Community Club and is truly a dream come true. “She has taken the role to the next level, leading the fundraising campaign with gusto and reimagining so many events in order to address COVID requirements, even though it made her role so much more difficult,” Weissenberger added. Angie has helped raise over $82,000 for students. Her go-to response to any request is, “I can make that work!” This year, with on-campus volunteer restrictions, she still managed to hold a book fair, plan a winter wonderland event for families, create a jungle-themed author’s day, and host a penny war competition, to name just a few things. “We are very thankful for Angie!” Weissenberger added.
