RE: COVID-19 Protocols and Schools Resuming for Instruction

Dear WVUSD Parents and Guardians,

We hope you and your family enjoyed the holiday break and are safe and well.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority.   As we have communicated since the start of this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to monitor and follow the guidelines and recommendations of local and state entities, including the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) and the Governor’s office. Throughout the winter break, we have been in communication with Public Health. All safety recommendations and multipronged protocols adhering to Public Health continue to be implemented as we welcome students back for in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.

The following guidelines and recommendations from Public Health are:

  •      Students are strongly recommended to wear single-use medical masks instead of cloth masks.
  •      Masks are strongly recommended to be worn outdoors when social distancing is not possible (except when actively drinking or eating).
  •      School districts should continue to provide COVID-19 testing for close contacts.
  •      School districts should continue to provide access to vaccines.

Information on the next vaccine clinic, scheduled for Saturday, January 8, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Diamond Bar High School, will be sent to all WVUSD parents and guardians.

COVID testing for students will be available beginning Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Detailed information is on our District website https://www.wvusd.org/

As service and additional safety measures for students, the California Department of Public Health is sending school districts an at-home Rapid Antigen test kit for every TK- 12th-grade student attending public schools. These at-home tests are optional for parents to use for their student(s) and are a one-time supplement only to augment our current testing regiment. Once WVUSD receives its shipment of the at-home Rapid Antigen test kits, all parents and guardians will receive detailed information on how to pick up the kit for their student(s).

WVUSD continues to implement the following safety measures and mitigations:

  •      Mandatory masks for all students and staff while indoors.
  •      Masks outdoors when social distancing is not possible (except when actively drinking or eating).
  •      Minimize large gatherings (i.e., WVUSD has canceled Open House for the 2021/2022 school year).
  •      Close contact tracing for all confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.
  •      Adherence to Public Health’s guidelines on quarantine protocols for exposed individuals.
  •      Frequent hand washing and/or use of hand sanitizer.
  •      Central air filtration for HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) systems uses filters with an efficiency reporting value (MERV) of 13.

We thank you for your support and help in following the guidelines from Public Health to optimize the health and safety of all students and staff.

Please continue your part in keeping safety and wellbeing our top priority by adhering to the following guidelines:

  •      Check your child’s symptoms daily before sending them to school.
  •      Keep your child at home if your child presents COVID-like symptoms (fever 100.4° or higher, new cough, diarrhea, vomiting) and consult with your medical provider or contact our district nurse for guidance.
  •      Provide a single-use medical face mask for your student to wear to school every day.
  •      Remind your student to wash and/or sanitize their hands frequently.

If you have any questions, please utilize the Let’s Talk! feature on our District’s website.

We thank you for your continued support and understanding as we provide a safe learning environment for all students. We wish you and your family a healthy and safe 2022.

Thank you,

WVUSD Educational Services

Let’s Talk!
