WALNUT, CA--Walnut Valley USD will host an official groundbreaking ceremony for a new two-story science building and gymnasium at Suzanne Middle School on Wednesday, November 17 at 3:30 p.m.

“We are so excited to be expanding our campus!” shared Principal Dr. Amy Smith who says the new STEAM-focused classrooms and gymnasium will bring a “modern and sophisticated” look to the school.

“We look forward to all the new learning experiences our students, staff, and community will be able to take part in with this expansion.”

School modernization and construction projects are made possible through voter approval of Bond Measure WV passed in November 2016.

The two-story 10,000 square-foot building will feature ten state-of-the-art science classrooms with collaboration work spaces.

The 12,000 square-foot gymnasium will include interior bleachers, full-size basketball court and two practice courts, volleyball court, wood gym floor, and attached Kinesiology workout room.

The Board of Trustees awarded the contract for the two-story classroom building and gymnasium to R.C. Construction Services at the October 20, 2021 meeting. The winning bid for the projects designed by DC Architects was $5,100,911.00.

Construction is scheduled to begin November 29, 2021 with a duration of 487 days.

Completion is slated for Spring 2023.

Suzanne Middle School is located at 525 Suzanne Road in Walnut.
