VIRTUAL Parent Symposium

Dear WVUSD Families,

WVUSD is excited to host the 4th annual Parent Symposium on Saturday, September 26, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

This year, you can enjoy it in the comfort of your own home. Turn on your computer, grab a cup of coffee, and join us on YouTube!

There is no need to register, just click the link to watch the live broadcast at:  https://youtube.com/channel/UCc-BGgKDMp-5CFa9mTL6xww

We're bringing back two of our favorites!  International expert and author on children, teens, and parenting, Michele Borba will be joining us as well as Paul Kanarek, co-founder of the Princeton Review.

Here's our agenda:

8:30-8:45 a.m.  Welcome and Opening by Superintendent, Dr. Robert Taylor

8:45-9:30 a.m.    Michele Borba:  How to Help the Pandemic Generation Thrive Now & Later (For Educators & Parents)

These are unprecedented times but how do we help our students? Dr. Borba explains why empathy and resilience are core when educators and parents are considering how to help their children before and after school. You’ll learn real, no-cost, evidence-based ways to help children overcome adversity, be more resilient, and learn skills they will need both now and later. You’ll hear a range of support options from how to: rebuild personal connection after experiencing disconnection, teach coping strategies, minimize anxiety and stretch focusing, and so much more! Most important, you’ll leave with strategies to improve school performance as well as help kids become thrivers both now and later.

9:30-9:45 a.m. Break

9:45-10:30 a.m. Paul Kanarek: The College Journey: 2021 and Beyond

There’s the obvious changes that you read about daily, but far more interesting is how both admissions specifically, and college in general, is going to evolve. There have been micro-movements toward a new college dynamic that have been building over the last decades, but the current economic and psychological climate will dramatically accelerate these shifts. In this opening presentation, one of our favorite presenters, Paul Kanarek (former founder of Princeton Review and current managing partner of Collegewise), will lay out the path as he sees it.

See you on Saturday!
