Coronavirus (COVID-19) Precautions Update

WALNUT VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) PRECAUTIONS UPDATE

Update #2:  March 12, 2020

We appreciate your patience during this challenging time.  We realize this unique circumstance has caused a significant increase in uncertainty and anxiety.   Today we are continuing to provide you with the most up to date information on the coronavirus (COVID-19).   On March 12, 2020, Governor Newsom provided direction relative to gatherings and COVID-19.  It has been determined that gatherings with the potential of 250 or more people should be postponed or cancelled across the state. Therefore, Walnut Valley Unified School District has implemented the following procedures, effective immediately.

SCHOOL CLOSURES

Local K-12 Public School Districts in Los Angeles County, including Walnut Valley Unified School District, are required to receive authorization from Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health), in order to qualify for consideration of any school closure.  While some counties have taken other steps, we are required to follow the directives from Public Health.  At this time, all WVUSD schools remain open.

INDEPENDENT STUDY

Our District continues to offer Independent Study for defined circumstances (we have expanded the guidelines to include issues relevant to COVID-19).  For additional information on Independent Study, you may contact your school office.

SCHOOL EVENTS OVER 250 PEOPLE

Governor Newsom has directed all entities, including school districts to cancel all gatherings with the potential of 250 or more people. Therefore, WVUSD is cancelling or postponing all school events with the potential of 250 or more people in attendance, until further notice.  For example, the following types of events will be postponed or cancelled:

  •      Parent Information Nights
  •      Student Performances
  •      Student Assemblies
  •      Award Programs
  •      School Carnivals

OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIPS

Governor Newsom has directed all entities, including school districts to cancel all gatherings with the potential of 250 or more people. Therefore, WVUSD is cancelling or postponing all overnight field trips.  Many of the organizations hosting such fieldtrips have already cancelled the activity.  We are working with various entities to address possible reimbursements.  Additionally, school personnel, in applicable instances, are considering rescheduling the trips.

LOCAL FIELD TRIPS

Governor Newsom has directed all entities, including school districts to cancel all gatherings with the potential of 250 or more people. Therefore, WVUSD is cancelling or postponing all local field trips.  Many of the organizations hosting such field trips have already cancelled the activity.  We are working with various entities to address possible reimbursements.  Additionally, school personnel, in applicable instances, are considering rescheduling the trips.

OPEN HOUSES

Governor Newsom has directed all entities, including school districts to cancel all gatherings with the potential of 250 or more people. Therefore, WVUSD has cancelled all Open Houses.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Prioritizing the importance of our teachers being in the classroom with students during this challenging time, we are cancelling all Districtwide Professional Development sessions, until further notice.

USE OF FACILITIES BY OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS

Governor Newsom has directed all entities, including school districts to cancel all gatherings with the potential of 250 or more people. Therefore, WVUSD is cancelling or postponing use of facility requests by outside organizations that have the potential of 250 or more people.  Many of the organizations hosting such events have already cancelled or postponed the events.

NON-SCHOOL PERSONNEL VISITORS IN CLASSROOMS

Based on recent direction to limit non-school personnel in classrooms, and out of an abundance of caution, we are suspending any volunteers in our classrooms during the school day.
