DIAMOND BAR, CA--Student success at Maple Hill Elementary has been soaring since the launch of its Clubhouse three years ago.

The unique program was developed to provide cohesive supports for struggling and unduplicated students.

All Clubhouse intervention services are contained in one location creating a hub of collaboration and efficiency among staff members.

The multipurpose room was transformed into colorful, fun, safe haven outside the classroom for students to feel valued, reassured without getting stuck in intervention for the entire school year.

“The Clubhouse is the great equalizer,” said Principal Kelly Morris.

“With some ingenuity and utilizing our current resources more effectively, the Clubhouse provides equitable distribution of supports and opportunities for all of our students to close the Opportunity Gap.”

Maple Hill has been rewarded for the outstanding program with a 2019 Golden Bell Award.

Along with sharing data and monitoring progress, more unified curriculum and strategies are being utilized for the student population.

Clubhouse goals include providing more intensive academic, behavioral, and social supports. Data-driven decisions support the District’s LCAP goals.

Maple Hill’s CAASPP test scores reveal that the school is attaining equitable outcomes for unduplicated students and making great strides in closing the opportunity gaps.

Perhaps the best way to emphasis Clubhouse success is the heartwarming story of an enrollee from China who arrived with limited English, along with family and behavior issues.

The student received a full-push of services from the team of teachers, bilingual aides, school counselor, in addition to after-school help with homework.

“The Clubhouse became his home away from home and the supports we had in place allowed him to reveal the best version of himself,” said Elementary Learning Specialist Kim McNeil.

“In time, the Clubhouse transformed our student and we saw him flourish with increased reading and math scores levels. But, above all else, he was happy and at peace.”
