WALNUT, CAElementary students were honored for achieving their personal best during the 21stannual Benihana Lunch with the Principal on May 9.

 

Each of the elementary schools in the Walnut Valley Unified School District chose a hard-working student to celebrate during the event held at the City of Industry restaurant.

 

Congratulations to this year’s fifth grade honorees: Austin Le– Castle Rock, Elizabeth Vazquez – Cyrus J. Morris, Mikaela Hill – Collegewood, Derek Fonmin – Evergreen, Zayna Elshishiny - Quail Summit, David Jiang - Maple Hill, Jaxton Ramer – Vejar, Emma Park – Walnut Elementary, and Immanuel Ruiz – Westhoff.

 

Personal chefs entertained audiences while creating flaming onion ring volcanos, drizzling eggs into a cartoon characters, and flipping shrimp tails in stovepipe hats.

 

After enjoying the teppan-style meal, principals took turns sharing success stories about their students.

 

“There are so many wonderful things about Michaela, but the best thing is that she perseveres and is very resilient,” said Collegewood Elementary Principal Dr. Mary Wendland.

 

“And no matter what her challenge is, she always rises above it with the best smile on her face!”

 

“Justin has an impressive reading goal of reading one-million words this year!” shared Vejar Elementary Principal Whitney Prenger.

 

“And he is just one book away from meeting that goal!”

 

“David is filled with so much joy and appreciation coming to school every day – just like he was going to Disneyland!” said Maple Hill Elementary Principal Kelly Morris

 

 

Students received certificates, gifts, and keepsake photos.

 

“We’re so proud of all our honorees!” said Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor.
