DB Engineering team takes 5th in Source America nationwide contest

May 14, 2019

DB Engineering students took 5th place in the nationwide Source America Engineering Design Competition held in Washington DC.

The teens were tasked with designing a real-life solution to benefit people living with disabilities in local communities.

“I really love this challenge because it makes a difference in the lives of others using things the kids create,” said Diamond Bar HIgh teacher Johnny Hwang.

“The goal was to help people with disabilities increase their work productivity,” said junior Jonathan Tan.

The group created two devices for employees at the non-profit Opportunity Village in Nevada who wrap cables and clean remote-control devices.

The teens designed a motorized spinning table with prongs that attached to cables and a foot pedal.

The second invention was a holder for brushes and cloths to benefit an employee with limited hand mobility.

Congratulations students Cathleen Chen, Nathan Jong (Rowland HS), Ryan Lou, Jay Yu, and Jonathan Tan, and mentor Dr. Paul Liu.
