Al Capp’s world famous characters have been placed in the upbeat musical extravaganza LI’L ABNER. It is a satisfying mixture of hillbilly nonsense and sharp, critical humor that appeals to the sophisticated theatergoer as well as the child within us all.
The curtain opens on a “Typical Day” in Dogpatch, U.S.A where the lovable characters, Li’l Abner, Daisy Mae, Earthquake McGoon, Mammy and Pappy Yokum, and all the other citizens of Dogpatch are preparing for the annual Sadie Hawkin’s Day Race in which the women folk catch themselves a husband. But their typical day is soon to be interrupted and possibly forever changed as the government begins to meddle in their peaceful, daily lives.
